Study first

Prepare for GA4 Intermediate Quiz

Use this review before the quiz if you want to check the GA4 decisions that come after the basics: building explorations, interpreting attribution, registering custom data, validating events, and protecting report quality.

Explorations and analysis

Explorations help answer questions that standard reports do not cover. They are useful for deeper analysis, but the setup matters: technique, dimensions, metrics, segments, filters, date ranges, and privacy thresholds can all affect what you see.

  • Use segments for user, session, or event subsets in an exploration.
  • Use filters to restrict the current exploration tab.
  • Remember that reports and explorations can differ because of supported fields, filtering, date range, thresholds, and processing.
  • Choose funnel or path exploration when the question is about step completion or user journeys.

Measurement setup and data quality

Intermediate GA4 work often starts with whether the right events and parameters are being collected. DebugView, custom definitions, data filters, and retention settings affect whether the data can be trusted and analyzed later.

  • Use DebugView to validate events and parameters from a debug-enabled device.
  • Register useful event parameters as custom dimensions or metrics before relying on them in reports.
  • Avoid high-cardinality custom dimensions such as unique IDs.
  • Test data filters before activating them because active exclude filters permanently remove matching incoming data.

Key events, attribution, and activation

Key events represent business-important actions. Attribution settings and advertising reports help explain how channels contributed, while audiences can support analysis and activation when the property collects the required signals.

  • Mark only meaningful business actions as key events.
  • Attribution settings affect key event credit in behavioral and performance reports.
  • Data-driven attribution can assign fractional credit across touchpoints.
  • Audiences are based on user attributes or behavior and can be shared with linked advertising products.
