Study first

Review the ideas behind the questions

These notes prepare you to check whether a LinkedIn Ads audience can build, match, deliver, and report clearly before you change targeting or budget.

List audiences need enough matchable data

Company and contact lists can support account-based or priority-contact campaigns, but list quality affects whether the audience can be used.

  • Company lists are part of Matched Audiences.
  • LinkedIn can match company lists using company name, website, email domain, LinkedIn Company Page URL, or stock symbol.
  • Adding fields such as company website or LinkedIn Page URL can improve match results.
  • A company list must have at least 300 rows for upload and must match at least 300 member accounts to be used in an active ad set.

Retargeting and predictive audiences have build rules

Website and predictive audiences are useful only when the source data is valid and large enough.

  • Website retargeting needs the LinkedIn Insight Tag installed; an existing Insight Tag can serve both conversion tracking and website audiences.
  • Website audiences start building from the day they are created and do not include website activity from before that date.
  • Website retargeting audiences must match at least 300 member accounts before they become active.
  • Predictive audiences use one supported source type and Audience Expansion is turned off for ad sets that use predictive audiences.

Reporting can be delayed or privacy-limited

Some LinkedIn Ads reports should be used as directional signals rather than exact instant totals.

  • Matched Audience match rate can show as less than 5 percent when the audience has fewer than 300 members.
  • Delivery metrics such as reach and average frequency are modeled and usually take 24 to 36 hours to appear.
  • LinkedIn recommends using delivery metrics directionally, not for historical performance comparisons.
  • Professional demographic reporting is aggregated and LinkedIn applies minimum thresholds and privacy-preserving techniques.
